Actions of the Siege

The siege of Petersburg consisted of about 19 separate actions between the opening assaults in June, 1864, and the end of the siege with the battle of Five Forks and the final assaults in April, 1865. Several of these actions are related and so are properly treated together.

The accounts in this list were originally written by the author for posting to the newsgroups alt.civil.war.usa and soc.history.war.us-civil-war, and are based on his own reading and research using mostly standard sources such as those listed in the bibliography. During the first several months of the site's existence, the actual content of the articles will be undergoing constant revision. The presence of the "updated" symbol means that the page is essentially in its final form; the presence of the "draft" symbol means that the page has been uploaded, but is not yet in final form.
